Women's Golf Finishes Sixth at Creighton Classic

Bluejays shoot rounds of 318 and 326 in lone home meet of the fall

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton Women's Golf team finished in sixth place at its lone home meet of the fall, the Creighton Classic, on Tuesday at Oak Hills Country Club.
The Bluejays, who entered the day in sixth place after a 318 on Monday, fired a 326 in the second round and placed sixth of nine teams with a 644 aggregate.
First-round leader Western Illinois held onto its lead, improving by four shots to shoot a 307 on Tuesday and finish with a 618 total. That was good enough to best South Dakota's 622 by four shots. The Coyotes fired a tournament-best round of 305 on Tuesday, paced by Brenna Lervick's three-under par 69. She won medalist honors in the field of 60 golfers with a 146 (+2) total. Lervick's closest competition was North Dakota State's Natalie Roth, who finished with rounds of 72-76 for a four-over 148.
Sydney Gillespie fired her second consecutive 79 to lead the Bluejays with a 14th place finish, her best mark as a Bluejay.
Sarah Eversman had CU's best round on Tuesday with a 78. Her 159 total tied her for 18th place overall.
Kelsey Johnson (83-83) and Kelsey Petersen (80-86) both tied for 33rd place with 166 totals, while Caroline Lake shot a 90 on Tuesday to tie for 39th place at 168 overall.
Three Bluejays competed as individuals. Rachel Grenko fired consecutive 87's to tie for 47th place at 174. Delaney Benson (90-89) and Annie Pearson (89-90) both tied for 51st place with 179 totals.
Creighton will close out its fall season on Oct. 28-29 in Bedminster, N.J., when it plays in the Pirate Invitational at Trump National Golf Club.
