Women's Golf Closes Fall in Eighth Place at Pirate Invitational

Kelsey Petersen ties for ninth place
BEDMINSTER, N.J. -- A top-10 finish by Kelsey Petersen helped the Creighton women's golf team finish eighth of 14 teams at the Seton Hall Pirate Invitational, which wrapped up Saturday at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J.
South Dakota State won the team title with rounds of 326 and 306. The Jackrabbits total of 632 beat Lamar by 14 strokes. All five SDSU golfers looped in the 70s during Saturday's final round, which was played in calm conditions. SDSU's Megan Mingo tied for medalist honors, winning a four hole playoff against Lamar's Olivia le Roux after they posted matching 152's.
Creighton's shot a round of 349 on Friday before improving to a 339 on Saturday to finish with a 688 overall.
Petersen tied for ninth in the field of 77 golfers for her fifth career top-10 finish, and first as a senior, after shooting an 83 followed by an 81.
Sarah Eversman added her third top-15 finish in five meets this fall, tying for 12th place. She put together rounds of 85 and 80.
Sydney Gillespie, playing in her first meet since being named BIG EAST Golfer of the Week, tied for 43rd place. Gillespie shot a 91 on Friday in cold conditions before improving to an 85 on Saturday.
Rounding out the Bluejay line-up was Kelsey Johnson (95-93=188, T70th) and Caroline Lake (90-DNC, 77th).
Creighton returns to the course on March 6-7 in McAllen, Texas, at the UTRGV Invitational.
