Women's Golf Opens Spring With Ninth Place Finish at UTRGV Invitational

Sarah Eversman leads the way with a tie for 20th place
McALLEN, TEXAS -- The Creighton women's golf team opened the spring season with a ninth-place finish at the UTRVG Invitational at McAllen Country Club on Tuesday.
Creighton tallied a three-round total of 971, with rounds of 325 and 329 on Monday before a 317 total on Tuesday. The course played to a par of 71 and measured 5,914 yards.
Sarah Eversman led CU with a tie for 20th place, firing rounds of 80, 83 and 73 en route to a 236 total. Her round of 73 was her best of the season, and tied for the second-best round of 74 career loops as a Bluejay. Her result helped land her the fourth top-20 finish of her junior campaign.
Next on the club was sophomore Sydney Gillespie, who followed Monday circuits of 84 and 81 with a final 18 score of 76 to tie for 36th with a 241 aggregate. Her 76 was also a season-low.
Senior Kelsey Petersen led CU with a 78 to open the tournament, then added an 84 and 82 to tie for 40th with a 244 score.
Rounding out the Bluejay team were sophomores Kelsey Johnson (87-82-86=255) and Caroline Lake (83-83-90=256). Johnson tied for 55th, while Lake was 57th.
Sam Houston State won the tournament with rounds of 303-309-295 for a 907 total. Heather Shake, also of SHSU, won the meet with rounds of 74, 77 and 72 for a 223 score. The meet featured 13 teams and 73 golfers overall.
Creighton returns to the course next Monday when it starts the three-day ORU/SFA Spring Break Shootout in Dallas, Texas.
