Five men score in double-figures
OMAHA, Neb. -- Five men scored in double-figures as No. 22 Creighton men's basketball never trailed in a 93-46 exhibition win over Wayne State on Friday before 15,128 fans at CenturyLink Center Omaha.
The host Bluejays held the Division II Wildcats scoreless for nearly six minutes while building a 13-0 lead to open the game. Highly-touted Kansas State transfer Marcus Foster drained a three-pointer on his first shot in a Creighton jersey to open the scoring, and would end up leading five men in double-figures with 13 points overall.
Creighton's lead reached 51-20 by intermission, as All-BIG EAST guard Maurice Watson Jr. paced CU with 11 points and a pair of steals. Creighton owned a 29-13 lead on the glass and had a 19-0 lead in fast break points in the opening stanza.
Creighton continued the onslaught in the second half, taking a pair of 48-point leads while closing out the 93-46 victory.
Foster led CU with 13 points while Khyri Thomas, Martin Krampelj and Watson each added 11. Watson also registered a team-best seven assists, while Ronnie Harrell Jr. added 10 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Creighton played all 14 men in uniform at least four minutes, and 12 of them scored. CU shot 53.8 percent from the field and 38.1 percent from three-point land while sinking 68.2 percent at the line.
Jordan Cornelius tallied a team-best 13 points for Wayne State, while Vance Janssen dished a team-best four assists for WSC. The contest was the second exhibition game of the year for Wayne State (1-1), which downed Midland on Tuesday.
Creighton opens the regular-season next Friday, Nov. 11, when it hosts UMKC at 8 pm.
