Baseball Drops 2016 Season Opener at Fresno State, 2-1

Fresno, Calif. - The Creighton Baseball battled and scraped but were unable to come up with enough offense as the Bluejays fell to Fresno State, 2-1, in the 2016 season opening game.
The loss dropped Creighton to 0-1 on the season, while Fresno State moved to 1-0.
Fresno State got on the board first in the bottom of the fourth, as the Bulldogs chased Creighton starter Matt Warren with back-to-back singles to open the inning. With Connor Miller on from the pen, Fresno State's Zach Ashford swiped second and the Bulldogs pushed across runs on a squeeze and a short single to take a 2-0 edge.
Creighton came back quickly as Brett Murray led off the top of the fifth with a long home run over the left field wall to make it 2-1.
Murray's blast was one of just four hits for the Bluejays, the other three being singles by Daniel Woodrow, Ryan Fitzgerald and Reagan Fowler.
Warren (0-1) took the loss, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks in three innings of work. Fresno State's Ricky Thomas (1-0) picked up the win, limiting Creighton to one run on three hits in six innings.
The Bluejays and Bulldogs will renew their battle on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 4:05 pm.
