Men's Tennis Sweeps Mavericks, 7-0, in Crosstown Showdown
2/28/2016 9:02:00 PM | Men's Tennis
OMAHA, Neb. - Creighton Men's Tennis dispatched crosstown opponent, Nebraska-Omaha, by a 7-0 margin on Sunday.
"Our guys stepped up and played well from the start against a good UNO squad," Creighton head coach Tom Lilly said.
Creighton earned the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions before sweeping singles play.
"The top two doubles teams jumped out early and stayed agressive throughout," Lilly said. "Dippel, Chalstrom, and Kendell played great singles and never let up. Koca, Lang, and Glazer had some struggles at times and some of that was due to strong play on the other side of the net, but I credit them with being strong mentally and working through tough times. This was a good win for the team heading into four matches in Florida."
Quinn Dippel and Alex Koca teamed up to win at No. 1 Doubles, 6-1, while Harrison Lang and August Nysted won, 6-2, at No. 2.
In singles play, four of the six Creighton competitors won in straight sets, including Aaron Chalstron and Brooks Kendell who won, 6-1, 6-1, and, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 4 and No. 5 Singles, respectively. Quinn Dippel defeated Colin Buckley, 6-0, 6-4 at the top spot.
The next three Bluejays (2-4) off the court were Harrison Lang, Jake Glazer, and Alex Koca.
Lang earned a 7-5, 6-2 win at the third singles position. Meanwhile, Glazer and Koca each won hard-fought matches in third set tiebreakers.
Creighton will be back in action next weekend as the Bluejays travel to Orlando, Fla., for a slate of neutral-site contests.
