Women's Golf Ties For 10th Place in Utah

Kelsey Petersen ties for 12th place
ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Creighton women's golf team tied for 10th place at the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational on Friday. The Bluejays shot a two-round 631 (317+314) at the Sunbrook Golf Course.
South Dakota State earned the team championship after a 2-over par 578 (287+291). The Jackrabbits held a nine-stroke lead after the first round and won the invitational by 18 shots. Host Southern Utah finished second with a 596 (296+300). Northern Illinois placed third with 611 (318+293) after entering day two in 12th place. The Huskies shaved 25 strokes off its first round team total and had two individuals finish in the top 10.
Hallie Getz and Megan Mingo led South Dakota State to the team championship as the individual champion and runner-up. Getz shot a 141 (68+73) to earn the crown and Mingo shot a 142 (72+70) for second. South Dakota's Islamiah Fuad took third with a 143 (70+73) while competing as an individual. Northern Illinois' Connie Ellett shot a second round tournament low 68 and tied for fourth with a 145 (77+68).
Junior Kelsey Petersen paced Creighton after carding a 151 and tying for 12th place. The Colorado native led the Bluejays in both the first and second round, totaling 75 on Thursday before shooting a 76 on day two.
Freshman Kelsey Johnson finished in a tie for 42nd with a 159 (80+79). Sophomore Sarah Eversman closed the event with an identical 79 during the second round and tied for 45th with a 160 (81+79).
Freshman Caroline Lake tied for 50th with a 161 (81+80) while senior Grace Yowell stroked a 165 (81+84) and placed in a tie for 61st.
Four of the five Creighton competitors earned their lowest 36-hole tournament scores of their career.
Creighton continues its spring schedule with the ORU/SFA Women's Spring Break Invite on March 14-15 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
