Omaha, Neb. -- Leadoff man Daniel Woodrow used his speed to get the Creighton Baseball out to an early lead as the Bluejays upended North Dakota, 7-1, on Friday, March 18.
The victory pushed the Bluejays to 10-4 on the season, while North Dakota fell to 3-8.
After starter Rollie Lacy sat down the Fighting Hawks in order in the top of the first, Woodrow laced a single to open the Bluejays' half. On the second pitch to Ryan Fitzgerald, Woodrow stole second and raced to third on a passed ball. Just three pitches later another passed ball brought Woodrow home to give Creighton a 1-0 edge.
The Bluejays got another run in the second on a double from Harrison Crawford and a two-out RBI single from Bryce Only.
Creighton tacked on three more runs in the third behind a single and stolen bag from Woodrow, an RBI single by Fitzgerald, an RBI double from Nicky Lopez and a two-out RBI single by Brett Murray.
North Dakota got its lone run of the game in the top of the sixth to chase Lacy, but senior Connor Miller picked up his mate by striking out Luis Calvo with the bags juiced to end the Fighting Hawks threat.
Creighton came back with a run in its half of the sixth with a leadoff single by Murray and an RBI single from Only.
The Bluejays' final run of the game crossed in the eighth as Crawford walked, Will Bamesberger sent him to third with his first career single and Kevin Connolly chased Crawford home.
Lacy held North Dakota to one run on four hits and two walks in 5.2 innings to earn the win (4-1). North Dakota's Zach Muckenhirn took the loss (1-3), allowing six runs (five earned) on nine hits and a walk in 6.2 innings.
Offensively the Bluejays were led by two hits from Woodrow, Murray and Only.
