Creighton vs. Kansas State Series
Kansas State leads the overall series with the Bluejays, 52-38-1. Creighton and the Wildcats have split the last two games with Kansas State picking up an 8-2 win in Manhattan on March 9 and the Bluejays winning 6-3 on March 11, 2015 in Kansas.
The Wildcats took two of three from the Bluejays during a weekend series in 2014 at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.
Scouting the Wildcats (2016: 11-9, 0-0 Big 12)
Kansas State rode a six-game winning streak into play last weekend, including a win over the Creighton on March 9, but Western Carolina swept the Wildcats in three battles.
Jake Wodtke leads Kansas State at the plate with a .378 average, 28 hits and 22 runs scored.
The Wildcats will start Logan Wiley on the hill. He also started against the Bluejays earlier this season in Manhattan and allowed two earned runs in 2.0 innings pitched.
Creighton vs. Kansas Series
Creighton leads the overall series against Kansas 22-11. The Jayhawks won the most recent game 11-0 on March 26, 2014 in Omaha.
Scouting the Jayhawks (2016: 7-11, 0-0 Big 12)
The Jayhawks were swept in three games at Stanford last weekend. Prior to facing the Cardinal, Kansas had been playing good baseball. The Jayhawks swept a weekend tournament from North Dakota, Saint Louis and Purdue and split two with Murray State.
Hitting .262 as a team, Kansas is led by Matt McLaughlin's .333 average as well as his 14 RBI this season. Two other Jayhawks enter play on Wednesday at .300 or above with Colby Wright hitting .315 and Michael Tinsley at .300.
Kansas has yet to name a starter for Wednesday's contest. As a team the
Jayhawks have a 5.60 ERA, issuing 59 walks in 156 innings.
Rogalla's Rebounds
After watching his Sunday starting role be given to Austin Groth on March 13, sophomore Keith Rogalla authored one of his best performances as a Bluejay on Sunday, March 20.
Rogalla recorded a career-high nine strikeouts in 5.1 innings of shutout ball to earn his first win of the season over North Dakota.
Senior Reagan Fowler Ends Home Run Draught
The starting first baseman for the Bluejays since his freshman season, Reagan Fowler has been a veteran leader for the Bluejays since Creighton joined the BIG EAST. The 2014 Co-BIG EAST Player of the Year, however, had one bugaboo. Despite collecting a combined 178 hits through his first 158 games, Fowler had not delivered a home run as a Bluejay.
That all changed on Sunday, March 20. Fowler blasted a no doubter over the right field wall in the bottom of the fifth. It was Fowler's 573rd at-bat as a Bluejay.
Last Time A Bluejay Record Double-Digit Ks
Rogalla's nine strikeout effort in 5.1 innings begs the question, when was the last time a Bluejay reached double figures in strikeouts?
The answer is Jonas Dufek, who sat down 10 Bulldogs, in Creighton's 2-1 win over Georgia in the opening game of the NCAA Regionals on June 3, 2011.
Weekend Work: Bluejays Claim Fourth Consecutive Weekend Sweep
The Bluejays off flying high over the past month as Creighton has won 12-of-13 to move to 12-4.
After dropping three to begin the season at Fresno State, Creighton swept series at Stetson and Murray State.
A midweek loss at Kansas State broke up the Bluejays run, but Creighton has responded to sweep home series from UAB and North Dakota.
