Manhattan, Kan. -- The Creighton Baseball team dropped an 8-2 contest at Kansas State on Wednesday, March 9.
The loss ended the Bluejays six-game win streak as Creighton fell to 6-4 on the season. Kansas State, meanwhile, moved to 8-4 on the year.
Things got off to a great start for the Bluejays in the top of the first as Creighton plated two runs before the Wildcats came to the dish. Junior Nicky Lopez got things going with a one-out double to right. With two down, senior Reagan Fowler was hit by a pitch to put two men on. Seniors Harrison Crawford and Brett Murray followed with RBI singles to give Creighton a 2-0 edge.
Using the first midweek game of the season as a chance to get some work for the staff, Creighton used 10 pitchers in the contest.
Kansas State got on the board in the bottom of the third against the Bluejays' third pitcher of the day, junior Austin Groth. The Wildcats added two more runs in the fifth and put the game away with four runs in the eighth.
Senior Taylor Elman (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing two runs in his first action of the season. Elman lasted one-third of an inning, surrendering two hits and a walk in the fifth.
Kansas State's Brogran Heinen (1-0) picked up the win in relief, tossing two innings of hitless ball.
The Bluejays will be back on the diamond on Friday, March 11 as Creighton opens its home schedule with a three-game series against UAB. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 pm.
