Micaela Whitney stirkes out 10 and doesn't allow a hit in the final six innings
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Micaela Whitney threw a complete game two-hitter and Blake Ringle and Allie Reinhart homered to lift Creighton Softball to a 3-2 win in game one of a doubleheader at Butler on Saturday.
Creighton fell behind 2-0 in the first inning before Ringle tied it up in the second frame with her third homer of the year. Reinhart then homered for the sixth time this year, and fifth time in nine games, for the go-ahead score.
Whitney (8-6) allowed two hits in the entire game, both in the first inning, and got better as the afternoon went on. She retired 10 straight at one point, then worked out of a jam in the seventh inning to lock up the win. Whitney struck out 10 and walked just one in her third game this season with 10 or more punchouts.
Butler got on the board quickly with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Maggie MacBeth singled to start the game and would score on a triple by Brandyce Sallee. Sallee scored when Alyssa Lach drove her home with a sacrifice fly.
Creighton needed just three pitches to tie the game up. Sydnee Eck singled on the first pitch of the second inning before Ringle lofted a 1-0 pitch just inside the foul pole for her third home run of the season.
Reinhart then homered on the third pitch of the third inning for the eventual game-winning run, the second of her three hits in the contest.
Game two of the doubleheader started at 1:45 pm Central, with live stats available at http://stats.statbroadcast.com/statmonitr/?id=128855&a=1.
