Men's Soccer Hands No. 12 Loyola-Chicago Its First Loss Of Season

Mitch LaGro, Noah Franke and Luke Haakenson each scored their first goals of the season for No. 10 Creighton
OMAHA, Neb. -- Three different Bluejays scored their first goals of the season as the No. 10 Creighton men's soccer team picked up a 3-0 victory over No. 12 Loyola-Chicago on Tuesday night at Morrison Stadium.
The Bluejays improved to 6-1-2, while the Ramblers dropped their first match of the season and now own a 7-1-0 record. Loyola-Chicago entered the match as the only team in Division I without a loss or tie.
Creighton opened the scoring early when Mitch LaGro converted his first career goal during the fourth minute. Julius Fohr played a ball from the right side of the 18-yard box into the middle of the box where LaGro headed the ball into the back of the net. Fohr collected his first career assist on the play.
The Ramblers had not allowed a goal in 558 consecutive minutes before LaGro netted the first of his career. Loyola-Chicago's Andrew Chekadanov entered the match with six consecutive shutouts.
Noah Franke added his first goal of the season during the 30th minute to give the Bluejays a 2-0 lead at the half. Franke retrieved the ball on Creighton's half of the field on an attempted clear out by the goalkeeper, took a couple of dribbles and fired the ball from 28 yards out into the top corner of the net.
Loyola-Chicago held a 7-5 advantage in shots during the first half, but the Bluejays needed only two shots on goal to score a pair of goals.
Alex Kapp made four saves during the first half.
The Ramblers had allowed only two goals this season coming before allowing two during the first 30 minutes. Loyola-Chicago also did not trail during any of its matches during 2016 before Tuesday.
Freshman Luke Haakenson scored the first goal of his career during the 58th minute to put the match out of reach. Akeem Ward sent the ball to Joel Rydstrand at midfield who lofted the ball to Haakenson just outside the 18-yard box. The freshman handled the ball and lifted it over the Loyola goalkeeper to give the Bluejays a 3-0 advantage.
Creighton controlled the possession in the second half and held a 6-3 shot advantage.
The Bluejays needed only four shots on goal to score three times.
Kapp finished with five saves and recorded his fifth shutuout of the season.
Creighton improved to 30-5-3 at Morrison Stadium against top-25 teams and 52-0-2 under coach Elmar Bolowich when leading at the half.
The Bluejays return to the pitch on Saturday night at St. John's. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. The match will be broadcasted on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
