Baseball Falls To Utah Valley In 11 Innings, 2-1

Clark Brinkman's 6th-inning home run provided Creighton's scoring
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton baseball team fell 2-1 in extra innings to Utah Valley on Friday night during the Bluejays' home-opener at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.
The Bluejays are now 1-11, while the Wolverines improved to 4-12.
Utah Valley took an early lead with a two-out RBI in the first inning.
Creighton starter Rollie Lacy struck out the first batter he faced and induced a ground out to third before Zac Willis singled to left field.
After a walk to put a pair of runners on, Nick Simmons delivered with a single to center field to drive in Willis from second base and give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead.
Utah Valley starter Jackson Cofer retired the first six Bluejays before Jason Allbery broke into the hit column with a single to third base.
Creighton put runners on in the third, fourth and fifth innings but did not score until the sixth.
Clark Brinkman sent Cofer's 2-1 pitch over the left-field wall to tie the game at 1.
The Wolverines put pressure on Lacy throughout his 6.1 innings of work, but the junior right-hander wiggled out of danger multiple times.
Lacy induced an inning-ending double play with runners at first and second during the second, recorded a ground-ball out for the final out with a runner at third in the fourth, and struck out a pair of consecutive batters to end a first and third situation in the sixth.
Lacy matched a season-high with eight strikeouts, walked one, gave up seven hits and allowed one earned run.
Ethan DeCaster relieved Lacy in the seventh and walked the second batter he faced before striking out the next six and forcing a ground out to third base to end the top of the 9th.
DeCaster pitched 2.2 innings and recorded six strikeouts, one walk and did not give up a hit.
Creighton went down in order in the bottom of the ninth to send the game to extra frames tied at 1-1.
David Gerber scattered a two-out single in the top of the 10th, giving the Bluejays a chance to win the game in the last of the first extra inning.
After a fly out and ground out, Will Robertson and Isaac Collins extended the bottom of the 10th inning with walks and sent lead-off hitter Ben Reznicek to the plate with an opportunity to drive in the winning run from second.
Utah Valley reliever Logan Hold forced Reznicek into a weak line drive to first base and force an 11th frame.
In the 11th, Paul Estrada drove in the go-ahead run with a single to center field to drive in Callahan Moltzan from second base.
Hold struck out all three batters he faced in the last of the 11th to seal the victory.
Creighton managed only four hits in 34 at bats and left six on base, while Utah Valley tallied 10 hits and left 11 runners on base.
The Bluejays and Wolverines will continue their four-game weekend series with a doubleheader at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha on Saturday afternoon. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 1 p.m.
