Second Half Struggles Undo Women's Basketball in 65-55 Loss at Northern Iowa

Faber notches double-double in loss
Cedar Falls, Iowa -- Leading 23-20 at halftime, the Creighton women's basketball team was outscored 22-10 in the third quarter as the Bluejays fell to Northern Iowa 65-55 on Tuesday, Nov. 20.
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 1-3 on the season, while Northern Iowa moved to 2-2 on the season.
The Bluejays got off to a strong start in the opening quarter as senior Jade Owens dropped in her first two buckets of the season and freshman Chloe Dworak knocked down a three-ball from the corner to help the Bluejays build a 13-10 edge after one.
Creighton pushed its lead out to seven points early in the second quarter on layups from junior Ali Greene and senior Audrey Faber at 17-10. The Bluejays' advantage remained seven (21-14) with 2:50 left in the half. Green and Faber, however, picked up the second foul with four minutes remaining in the second, allowing the Panthers to cut lead Bluejay lead down to 23-20 at the break.
Northern Iowa opened the second half on an 11-0 run to seize control at 31-23 with 5:56 left in the period. The Bluejays closed within four at 37-33 (1:34), but missed a short range jumper that led to a three-pointer for the Panthers.
Creighton trimmed the lead back to six at 49-43 early in the fourth (7:06), but a trey from junior Olivia Elger just missed. Northern Iowa responded with back-to-back treys as the Bluejays did not climb back within single digits the rest of the way.
Faber led Creighton with 10 points and 11 rebounds for her second career double-double, while Elger also finished with 10 points.
Northern Iowa got 17 points and 11 rebounds from Megan Maahs and 15 points from Ellie Howell.
Creighton returns to the hardwood on Wednesday, Nov. 28 as the Bluejays host Drake at 12:00 pm in D.J. Sokol Arena.
