Scouting Drake (6-1)
The Bulldogs are off to a hot start this season as Drake's lone loss came to No. 1 Notre Dame on Nov. 23. As a result Drake has moved into the rankings, claiming No. 24 this week.
Drake comes to Omaha fresh off an overtime win to close its Thanksgiving tournament versus No. 12 South Carolina, 90-85 in Vancouver, Canada.
Four Bulldogs are averaging double digits this season, led by 17.9 ppg from Sara Rhine, who comes off the bench! Historically Drake plays at a frantic pace, causing turnovers and chaos in the back court.
Scouting Creighton (1-3)
The Bluejays have been bitten time and time again this season by injuries. Creighton has yet to play a game with its projected starting unit (Agnew, Carda, Elger, Faber and Greene). That will likely continue for a few more weeks as Agnew remains sidelined with a short term hand injury. In four contests, the Bluejays have used three different starting lineups.
The Bluejays have turned to Audrey Faber and the senior has answered, posting double figures in all four contests and collecting a double-double against Northern Iowa. Returning to the friendly confines of D.J. Sokol Arena after three straight road games, Faber will need some support for the Bluejays to get on track.
Although the start has been slow, Creighton is shooting better than 40% through four game, including a blistering 51.9% from Faber.
Dworak Equals Mark Set by Faber with Start in Fourth Game
Freshman Chloe Dworak earned her first start as a Bluejay in just her fourth game on Nov. 20th against Northern Iowa. The last Bluejay to move into the starting five in just her fourth contest as a Bluejay was Audrey Faber during the 2015-16 season. The duo are now tied for the earliest start under the direction of Jim Flanery.
Other notable Bluejays to collect an early start in their career include Bailey Norby (2014-18) in her fifth game as a Bluejay, and Sydney Lamberty (2014-18) in her sixth contest. Consider that Carli Tritz (2010-14) waited until her 10th game for a start and Marissa Janning (2012-17) did not start until game her 23rd game.
Elger Collects First Start as Well Against Panthers
While Dworak's first start came early, another Bluejay collected her first career start as junior Olivia Elger moved into the starting lineup against the Panthers on Nov. 20.
Faber Collects Second Career Double-Double
Audrey Faber collected her second career double-double, setting a new career-high with 11 rebounds to go with 10 points in the Bluejays battle with Northern Iowa on Nov. 20.
Flanery vs. Top 25
During his 17 years at the helm for the Bluejays, Jim Flanery is 5-31 against the Top-25 teams. Last season Flanery led the Bluejays to their first win over a team ranked Top-20 with a victory over No. 18 Villanova on Dec. 28.
