Winter Park, Fla. -- Led by a game-high 21 points from senior Audrey Faber, the Creighton women's basketball team earned a share of the Florida Sunshine Classic Championship on Friday, Dec. 21 with a 75-55 win over Vanderbilt. The win moved the Bluejays to 6-5 at the end of the non-conference portion of their schedule, while Vanderbilt fell to 4-8 overall.

Creighton closed the Florida Sunshine Classic 2-0 as did Miami, giving the two schools a share of the Tournament Championship. Following the Bluejays' win over Vanderbilt a 12-person Florida Sunshine Classic All-Tournament Team was announced, Faber and sophomore Temi Carda represented the Bluejays on the squad.
The contest with the Commodores begin slowly as Vanderbilt held an 8-5 edge with 6:30 left in the opening quarter. Creighton began to find its rhythm from beyond the arc as juniors Jaylyn Agnew and Morgan Turner each connected from distance to put the Bluejays up 11-8 (4:14). The three-point barrage continued with freshman Gracey Griglione and junior Olivia Elger hitting from beyond the arc as Creighton pushed its edge to 17-10 (1:58) and took a 22-12 edge with 29 seconds left in the opening frame when senior Jade Owens knocked down a trey. The Bluejays closed the opening period with six three-pointers from six different players, getting an early one from Faber.
Faber connected once more from beyond the arc to start the scoring in the second quarter, pushing Creighton's advantage to double-digits at 25-14. The Bluejays went on to extend their lead to 18 points at the half with a 9-2 run over the final 3:30. Turner and sophomore Tatum Rembao started the run with driving layups as the Commodores tried to deny the arc. Following a Vanderbilt bucket, Elger connected once more from downtown and Faber knocked down two free throws in the final second to send both teams to the locker room with Creighton holding a 41-23 lead.
The Bluejay lead was pushed as high as 22 points late in the third period, as Creighton never allowed Vanderbilt closer than 17 points in the second half.
Faber's 21 points led the Bluejays, while Agnew delivered 11 points. All 12 Bluejays scored in the contest, including eight connecting from beyond the arc.
Vanderbilt got 21 points from both Mariella Fasoula and Lealea Carter, but the Commodores were limited to just eight healthy players in the contest.
Creighton returns to the hardwood on Saturday, Dec. 29 as the Bluejays open BIG EAST play at DePaul. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 pm tip and will be carried on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
