Baseball Looks to Send Pirates Home Without Plunder in Weekend Series

Omaha, Neb. -- As the 2018 season winds down the Bluejay Baseball team faces a team its seen in each BIG EAST Tournament since joining the BIG EAST, the Seton Hall Pirates, in a crucial weekend series. Creighton needs a series win over the second place Pirates, while Seton Hall would love nothing more than to harm its conference foe.

Scouting the Pirates (2018: 21-15-1, 8-1 BIG EAST)
Picked to finish fourth in the BIG EAST, Seton Hall got off to a fast start by taking sweeping Butler and Villanova and taking two of three from Xavier. The Pirates close out the BIG EAST season with the Bluejays, the Red Storm and Georgetown.
The Pirates come to Omaha with victories in seven of their last eight games, but the one loss came to NJIT (New Jersey Institute of Technology) on April 24.
The Pirates enter TDAPO hitting .273 as a team, led by Rob Dadona at .348. In BIG EAST action Ryan Ramiz leads Seton Hall with a .469 average.
On the mound the Pirates have a team ERA of 4.42, including an impressive 1.89 ERA in BIG EAST play.
Creighton vs. Seton Hall Series
Creighton holds a 13-4 series edge on the Pirates. The Bluejays are 4-2 against Seton Hall at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha (TDAPO) in the regular season and 7-2 overall in TDAPO. Creighton and Seton Hall have also met each season in the BIG EAST Tournament, where the Bluejays hold a 5-0 edge.

Tapani Closes April by Earning BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week
Bluejay senior Ryan Tapani was named the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week on Monday, April 30.
The Creighton ace took care of business on Friday night as he allowed no runs to score during eight innings of work. Tapani had nine strikeouts in the 8-0 win, allowing eight hits with just one walk. After working out of trouble in the first few innings, Tapani returned 15 of the last 19 batters he faced. He left the game having thrown an impressive 111 pitches. Tapani's toughest test came in the third inning as he worked around consecutive one-out singles with back-to-back strikeouts.
BIG EAST Tournament At A Glance
The top four teams in the BIG EAST will battle for the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament in Mason, Ohio from May 24-27.
Already the Red Storm have clinched a spot, while the last three spots remain up for grabs.
