Ishimura went 15-5 at the top singles position
NEW YORK -- Creighton women's tennis junior Ashley Ishimura claimed a spot of the All-BIG EAST Second Team, the league announced on Monday morning.
Ishimura ended the spring season with a 15-5 record at the top singles position and helped the Bluejays finish at 15-8, the best mark since 1993 when the team earned a 17-9 record.
The junior earned eight consecutive singles victories from Feb. 17 to March 24, and concluded the season with 13 wins during her final 14 decisions. During duels against BIG EAST opponents, Ishimura went 2-0 and had two other matches go unfinished.
She also went 6-9 in doubles play at the No. 1 spot, including 5-4 with Michaela Henne.
"To go 15-5 at the No. 1 singles position this spring is pretty special," head coach Tom Lilly said. "Ashley is very deserving of all the recognition she gets. She is very humble and an extremely hard worker. I can't wait to see her continue her great play for us again next year."
Ishimura is the second Creighton women's tennis player to earn All-BIG EAST recognition, as Jennie Hartjes claimed a spot on the 2015 All-BIG EAST Team.
