Men's Soccer Starts Exhibition Slate With 2-1 Victory Over UNO

Sven Koenig scored a pair of goals to pace the Bluejays
OMAHA, Neb. – Sven Koenig scored a pair of goals as the Creighton men's soccer team defeated Nebraska-Omaha 2-1 on Saturday night at Caniglia Field during the Bluejays' first exhibition match of the season.
Koenig's first goal came during the 47th minute. With the Bluejays trailing 1-0, the senior forward slotted the ball into the back of the net from the left side of the 18-yard box to knot the match at 1-1 less than three minutes into the second half.
During the 87th minute, Julius Fohr sent a through ball along the right side of the pitch before Koenig recovered the ball and found the back of the net for the game-winning goal.
UNO broke into the scoring column during the early stages of the match. Nebraska-Omaha's Marcos Bautista scored during the third minute to give the host Mavericks an early 1-0 advantage.
UNO's goal marked their only shot during the first half, but the Mavericks claimed a one-goal advantage at the break. The Bluejays managed only three shots during the opening 45 minutes.
Creighton shifted the offensive attack to its end of the pitch during the second half ended the match with a 10-3 advantage in shots, including 7-2 during the final 45 minutes. The Bluejays also tallied eight corner kicks on Saturday night.
Creighton continues its exhibition portion of the season on Wednesday at Ohio State. Kickoff in Columbus is scheduled for 6 p.m. Central.
