
Women's Tennis Opens Spring Season With Loss At Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Creighton women's tennis team opened its 2019 spring schedule on Saturday afternoon against Nebraska at the Dillon Tennis Center. The Bluejays fell to the Cornhuskers 6-1.
Creighton dropped to 0-1, while the host Huskers improved to 1-1.
Nebraska claimed the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles positions to take the first point of the match. Creighton's Ashley Ishimura and Sarah Wilcox fell 6-2 at the top spot, while Erin Epperson and Claire Embree dropped a 6-2 decision at the No. 3 slot.
The Cornhuskers extended their lead with a straight-sets victory at the No. 5 and No. 1 singles positions and claimed the dual victory with a win at the fourth spot.
Freshman Gabby O'Connor secured Creighton's lone win of the day with a three-set triumph at the No. 6 position. The Ohio native opened the afternoon with a 6-4 win before falling 1-6 in the second frame. In the deciding third set, O'Connor picked up a 10-6 win during a tiebreaker format.
Creighton is back in action on Sunday morning in Lincoln for a neutral site match against Air Force.
