Men's Tennis Opens Home Schedule With Sweep of Doane, 7-0

OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton men's tennis team opened its home schedule with a 7-0 win against Doane at the Hanscom Indoor Tennis Center on Friday afternoon for the team's first victory of the season.
The Bluejays improved to 1-2, while the Tigers fell to 0-1.
Creighton started the afternoon with wins at the top two doubles slots to secure the first point of the match.
Stratton Brown and Mac Mease cruised to a 6-0 win during the No. 1 doubles match, while Nick Campbell and Daniel Lopez-Rey claimed a 6-1 victory at No. 2.
Armando Gandini and Joe Hoff earned a 6-2 win during the No. 3 match which ended moments after the Bluejays wrapped up the doubles point.
Creighton lost a combined seven games during singles play as the Bluejays swept the Tigers in straight-sets at each position.
Lopez-Rey and Jose Oscar Diaz each went unblemished at the sixth and fourth slots, respectively, before Campbell earned the fourth and deciding point at the top position with a 6-0, 6-1 decision.
Brown won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2, Mease earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 5 and Gandini closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-2 triumph at No. 3.
"Our guys came out aggressive and played very solid throughout the match," head coach Tom Lilly said. "It was good to get our first win of the season and hopefully some confidence and momentum heading into our first conference match next weekend."
Creighton continues its season on Feb. 1 at DePaul.
