Women's Soccer Faces Providence on Saturday

Omaha, Neb. -- Heading into the stretch run of the BIG EAST season, the Creighton women's soccer team hosts Providence at 1:00 pm on Saturday, Oct. 19th. The two teams are 3-3-0 since becoming conference foes and are separated by just two points in the standings entering play on Saturday. Prior to the match the Bluejays will honor its senior class as Saturday is Creighton's final home game on a weekend.

Creighton vs. Providence Series Tied 3-3
The Bluejays and Friars have faced off six times, with each contest delivering a one-goal decision. Creighton won the first two battles and took the last meeting in Omaha on Oct. 26, 2017. Providence claimed victories in 2015 and 2016, then rallied back from a 2-0 Creighton lead last season to claim a 3-2 win in overtime. Twice the two teams have needed extra time to decide the contest. The Bluejays are 2-1 against Providence at home, dropping the meeting in 2015.

Scouting Creighton (7-5-2, 1-2-2 BE)
The Bluejays earned an impressive 2-2 draw at #10 Georgetown last Sunday. Creighton is the only conference team to earn a result (collect at least one point) at Shaw Field in the last three seasons.
Senior Ashleigh Cearlock and sophomore Ansley Atkinson delivered the Bluejays' two goals, in the opening half as Creighton led 2-0, then held on for the 2-2 draw.
Offensively the Bluejays have diversified their attack in BIG EAST play, getting two goals from both Atkinson as well as freshman Skylar Heinrich. Cearlock and senior Kylin Grubb have each delivered one ball into the back of the net in BIG EAST action as well.
Over the course of the season Heinrich leads the squad with an impressive nine goals, while senior Taryn Jakubowski has three goals as well as two assists.
Defensively Creighton has split time in the net between redshirt freshman Keelan Terrell (0-1-1) and sophomore Katie Sullivan (1-1-1) in conference play. Terrell saw action at #10 Georgetown, while Sullivan was in net against Butler (Oct. 10).
Scouting Providence (7-5-2, 2-2-1 BE)
After starting BIG EAST play 2-0-0, Providence has dropped two out of their last three, posting a 0-0 draw against DePaul. The Friars fell in their last match 2-0 against Xavier to bring a 2-2-1 record to Omaha for a match with Creighton.
Offensively the Friars are led by sophomore Elayna Grillakis and junior Hannaha McNulty. The duo each have delivered five goals to collect 10 points apiece. Redshirt junior Shelby Hogan has played 1,330 minutes in goal for the Friars, collecting 75 saves while allowing just 13 goals and posting four shutouts this season.
Creighton Posts Second Result at Shaw Field in Last Three Seasons
The Georgetown Hoyas have easily been the class of the BIG EAST in women's soccer over the last three seasons, posting a 14-0-2 at home against conference foes and reaching the College Cup in 2018. During that stretch of 16 matches, Georgetown has outscored BIG EAST opponents 36-5. Both ties, however, have come against Creighton. The Bluejays have also scored three of the five goals allowed by the Hoyas over the past three seasons at home. The remaining two goals were scored by Xavier. In addition, the Bluejays are the only BIG EAST team to hold a lead over the Hoyas in Shaw Field, scoring first in 2017 and holding a 2-0 lead this year.
Atkinson Nabs Slot on BIG EAST Honor Roll
Atkinson gave the Bluejays a 2-0 lead late in the first half at No. 10 Georgetown on Sunday, scoring in the 42nd minute. The Bluejays held on for the draw, marking their second time in three seasons of earning a result on the nationally ranked Hoyas' home pitch.
