Men's Basketball Posts Wire-To-Wire Win Over Cal Poly

All five starters score in double-figures for CU
OMAHA, Neb. -- All five starters scored in double-figures as Creighton men's basketball never trailed in an 86-70 win over Cal Poly on Friday, Nov. 22. The game was the first of four that Creighton will play in the 19th Annual Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic.
Marcus Zegarowski led all players with 18 points and six assists, while Mitch Ballock and Damien Jefferson each added 17 for the Bluejays (3-1). Jefferson also topped CU with eight rebounds, his most since he had nine December 14, 2018 vs. Green Bay. Creighton shot 51.8 percent for the game (29-56) and dished 16 assists and swiped 11 steals. CU outscored the Mustangs 36-26 in the paint and 27-11 off turnovers.
Kyle Colvin had 18 points and seven rebounds to lead the Mustangs (1-4). Cal Poly shot 51.9 percent from the floor, including 9-of-19 from three-point range, and won the rebound battle 32-25.
Creighton made its first seven shots to quickly surge to an 18-5 lead in just over five minutes. Christian Bishop scored CU's first two baskets off assists from Jefferson before Jefferson himself scored the next six Bluejay points. Zegarowski would then nail a pair of three-pointers just 36 seconds apart before feeding Ty-Shon Alexander for a dunk.
The Bluejay lead reached 20 (32-12) after another Alexander score inside with 9:17 left in the first half. CU cracked the 50 point mark in the final seconds of the first half on a baseline jumper by Shereef Mitchell, taking a 51-38 lead into the intermission.
Creighton started the second half with the first five points and the lead remained 15 or higher the rest of the evening, reaching as large as 72-48 with 11:17 to go.
Creighton returns to the court on Sunday at 1 p.m. when it hosts North Florida (4-2). It will be the first meeting ever between the Bluejays and Ospreys.
NOTES: Greg McDermott is now 100 games over .500 as Creighton head coach (210-110) and also exactly 100 games over .500 at home (132-32) after tonight's win ...
