Men's Basketball Drops Las Vegas Opener vs. San Diego State

Creighton will meet No. 12 Texas Tech on Friday night
LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- An 18-0 run late in the first half carried San Diego State to an 83-52 victory at Orleans Arena in the 19th Annual Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational on Thursday, Nov. 28.
SDSU's decisive run came just moments after a 7-0 Creighton run gave CU a 20-18 lead with 8:19 to play in the first half, and helped San Diego State (7-0) take a 38-22 lead. CU missed eight shots, three free throws and committed four turnovers in that span. The Bluejays would trail 40-25 at the break following its lowest scoring half and shooting half (.333) of the season.
The Bluejays opened the second half with five straight defensive stops, but could only trim the deficit by three points down to 12 in that time. Preseason All-BIG EAST guard Ty-Shon Alexander's first field goal of the game didn't come until 16:24 remained, and the Aztecs responded with a 9-0 run in the next 1:34 to open up a 52-31 advantage. CU would draw no closer than 19 the rest of the evening.
Mitch Ballock led Creighton with 12 points. CU's two leading scorers entering the contest, Alexander (17.4 ppg.) and Marcus Zegarowski (18.0 ppg.) combined for 15 points on 6-for-27 shooting.
SDSU was topped by 21 points from Malachi Flynn, and 16 by Matt Mitchell. The Aztecs owns a 37-21 lead on the glass and outscored CU off the bench by a 28-15 count.
Creighton returns to the court on Friday at 9:30 p.m. CST when it takes on No. 12 Texas Tech in the consolation game of the 19th Annual Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational. Iowa beat No 12 Texas Tech 72-61 in the game immediately prior to Creighton's.
