2/10/2019 8:06:00 PM | Men's Tennis
LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Creighton men's tennis team claimed the doubles point before falling 4-2 to Nebraska at the Dillon Tennis Center on Sunday evening.
The Bluejays dropped to 1-5, while the Cornhuskers improved to 6-4.
Creighton earned wins during two out of the three doubles matches to secure the first point of the match.
Daniel Lopez-Rey and Nick Campbell combined for a 6-2 victory at the No. 2 position before Stratton Brown and Mac Mease fell 6-4 at the top position. In the deciding No. 3 position, Armando Gandini and Luke Moorhead earned a hard-fought 7-5 win.
Creighton extended its lead to 2-0 as Mac Mease lost only one game in a straight-sets victory (6-1, 6-0) during the No. 6 singles match.
Nebraska rallied for the overall victory with straight-sets wins at the top four singles positions.
Despite not winning a set, Creighton won a total of 22 games during the No. 1 through 4 singles matches.
Micah Klousia earned the fourth and clinching point of the night for the Huskers with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Stratton Brown at the No. 2 spot.
"Our guys fought really hard tonight," head coach Tom Lilly said. "It was great to get the doubles point; something that hasn't happened yet this year in bigger matches.
"We are improving and are much better than our record shows."
Creighton returns to the courts on Friday for a home match against Luther.
