LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Creighton women's tennis team fell to Wichita State, 4-0, during a neutral site match on Sunday evening at the Dillon Tennis Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.
The Bluejays moved their season record to 2-4, while the Shockers, who have qualified for the NCAA Regionals each of the past 10 springs, improved to 5-4.
Wichita State claimed the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 (6-2) and 3 (6-3) positions. During the No. 1 doubles match Ashley Ishimura and Sarah Wilcox led 5-4 but the match went unfinished because the other two matches were already decided.
The Shockers secured the overall dual with singles victories at the No. 1, 2 and 4 slots. A 6-0, 6-3 win at the second position clinched the fourth and final point of the night. Wichita State also claimed a 6-1, 6-0 win at the top spot and 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 2.
The No. 5 singles match, featuring Creighton's Claire Embree, was tied at 6-6 in the first set before play stopped. Michaela Henne also fell 6-4 in the first frame at No. 3 and trailed only 4-3 in the second before the match ended.
"Wichita State is arguably the best team we will play all year and it was good to see us playing competitively against a very good team," head coach Tom Lilly said.
Creighton is back in action next weekend at the Redbird Invitational. The Bluejays will face Illinois State on Saturday before playing Toledo or Southeast Missouri on Sunday.
