Bluejays Suffer 12-9 Loss to Texas State

On the season the Bluejays enter the evening game against host McNeese State at 4-1, while Texas State moved to 4-2.
Junior Parker Upton got Creighton started on the right note with his second solo home run in as many days. Both of Upton's shots came in the first inning. Texas State answered with two runs in the bottom half, but Creighton pulled even on a solo home run from freshman Jake Holton to open the second and pushed ahead on an RBI double from catcher David Vilches in the second.
Junior Will Robertson pushed Creighton's advantage to 5-2 in the top of the third with his second home run of the season, parking a two-run shot into right field. The Bobcats pushed across a run in the third and both teams traded runs in the fifth. Creighton's tally came on a leadoff double from Robertson, a shallow single to center from senior Jack Strunc and a sac fly by Holton.
Holding a 6-4 edge entering the sixth, Creighton watched as Texas State plated a half-dozen in the bottom half, then added two more in the seventh to lead 12-6.
Junior Isaac Collins pulled the Bluejays within striking distance with a two-run single in the eighth.
Creighton added a run in the ninth on an RBI groundout, but could not complete the late comeback.
Relief pitcher Mitch Boyer took the loss (0-1), allowing five runs on two hits and three walks in two-thirds of an inning. Texas State starter Hunter McMahon collected the win (1-1), giving up six runs in six innings.
Offensively the Bluejays closed the game with nine hits, led by two from Holton and Robertson each.
