Women's Tennis Closes Redbird Invitational With Setback To Southeast Missouri

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Creighton women's tennis team closed the Redbird Invitational with a 4-0 setback to Southeast Missouri on Sunday morning at the Bloomington Tennis Center.
The Bluejays fell to 2-6, while the Redhawks improved to 3-4.
SEMO took the first point of the day with wins at the No. 2 and 3 doubles slots. The Redhawks dropped a total of five games during those two matches.
Southeast Missouri sealed the overall dual with three straight-sets victories during singles play. A 6-3, 6-2 win at the top slot started the action and a 6-2, 7-5 decision at No. 6 extended the team lead to 3-0.
A 7-6, 6-2 victory at the No. 5 position ended the match.
Sarah Wilcox fell 6-4 in the first frame at No. 2 before battling back for a 6-0 sweep during the second set. Wilcox trailed 3-2 in the deciding third set before the match ended.
Michaela Henne (No. 3) and Erin Epperson (No. 4) each won a set during singles play before neither finished. Henne won her first set 6-4 and was tied 4-4 in the second, while Epperson claimed a 6-2 win in the opening set but fell in the second and trailed in the third before play ended.

"Once again we started off slow at No. 2 and 3 doubles, and that just can't happen against a good team," head coach Tom Lilly said. "I liked our energy and fight in singles but we just didn't have enough.
"I warned the girls at the beginning of the season that this would be our toughest schedule, probably, in history. We just need to keep positive and work even harder and the results will come."
