ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Creighton men's tennis team won its second consecutive match in Florida with a 6-1 victory against Xavier on Thursday at the USTA National Campus.
The Bluejays ended their trip to Orlando with a 2-1 record and improved to 6-7 overall. The Musketeers fell to 6-12 this spring with the loss.
Creighton opened the day with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles positions as the Bluejays secured the doubles point for a third consecutive day.
Xavier claimed the No. 2 doubles match, 6-1, but Daniel Lopez-Rey and Jose Oscar Diaz won 6-2 at No. 3 and the duo of Nick Campbell and Mac Mease clinched the first point with a 6-3 win at the top spot.
Diaz's 6-4, 6-3 win during the No. 4 singles match sealed the overall dual as Mease and Stratton Brown preceded Diaz with straight-sets wins at the No. 6 and No. 2 slots, respectively.
Campbell also won without dropping a set at the No. 1 position and Armando Gandini claimed a three-set victory at No. 3.
"Our guys played hard all week in the heat and elements and had to be strong mentally," head coach Tom Lilly said. "To win all three doubles points outdoors was great to see. We are getting better every week."
Creighton owns wins during four out of its last five duals.
The Bluejays return to the courts on March 26 for a match against UMKC in Kansas City, Missouri.
