KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Creighton men's tennis team extended its winning streak to three matches with a 4-3 victory on Tuesday afternoon against UMKC at the Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
The Bluejays improved to 7-7 overall this spring, while the Kangaroos fell to 5-9.
Nick Campbell secured Tuesday's dual with a three-set victory at the top singles position as each of the top four singles matches went three sets. Campbell won 6-3 in the first set, fell 6-2 in the second and earned Creighton's fourth point with a 6-4 victory in the final frame.
Jose Oscar Diaz also won in three sets at No. 4 singles (6-4, 2-6, 6-3), while UMKC earned three-set victories at No. 2 and 3.
Mac Mease won in straight sets in the fifth position, but the 'Roos claimed a straight-sets win at No. 6.
Creighton started the action in Kansas City with 6-4 victories at the No. 2 and 3 doubles slots to earn the first point. Stratton Brown and Joe Hoff won in the No. 3 match and Daniel Lopez-Rey and Diaz teamed up at No. 2 to clinch the doubles point.
"Our guys fought hard in another exciting, close match," head coach Tom Lilly said. "I'm proud of how we are competing and not getting rattled in big moments or at times when things are going against us. It's fun to watch and we are getting better everyday."
