Men's Tennis Heads To BIG EAST Championships As No. 5 Seed, Meets DePaul on Friday

Bluejay enter postseason with a 9-9 record
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton men's tennis team earned the No. 5 seed for the 2019 BIG EAST Tennis Championships presented by Jeep in Cayce, South Carolina. The Bluejays will meet fourth-seeded DePaul during Friday's quarterfinal round at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center.
Creighton ended its regular season slate with two consecutive wins to push its record to 9-9, including a 1-2 mark against BIG EAST competition. DePaul heads to South Carolina with a 10-13 record (4-3 BIG EAST). The Blue Demons earned a 4-3 win against the Bluejays earlier this year in Chicago.
Mac Mease leads the Bluejays with 22 victories. The junior is 9-9 during No. 1 doubles action and 13-4 in singles, primarily playing at the No. 6 position.Â
Freshman Nick Campbell enters the conference championship with 17 victories, including nine at the top singles slot. Campbell is 9-8 during No. 1 singles play and 8-7 in doubles, including 5-4 at the top position. The Cyprus native earned BIG EAST Tennis Male Athlete of the Week honors on March 19 following a 6-0 showing during Creighton's spring break trip to Orlando, and won six consecutive singles matches from March 3 to March 26.
Sophomore Stratton Brown earned two victories at No. 2 singles and two additional wins in doubles play during the final weekend of the regular season to claim BIG EAST Athlete of the Week accolades on April 9. Brown owns seven singles wins in the No. 2 position (7-10) and eight doubles victories (8-10) during 2019.Â
Jose Oscar Diaz claims 15 wins (10 in singles, five in doubles), Daniel Lopez-Rey has 13 (six doubles, seven doubles) and Armando Gandini owns 10 (six singles, four doubles).
The winner of Friday's match between Creighton and DePaul will meet the winner of St. John's and Xavier on Saturday at 8 a.m. Central.Â
