Baseball Battles Nebraska and Kansas in Midweek Contests

Omaha, Neb. -- Returning home after a weekend road sweep of Seton Hall, the Creighton Baseball team faces Nebraska and Kansas in a pair of midweek contests. The Bluejays host Nebraska on Tuesday, then travel to Kansas on Wednesday.

Series History: Creighton trails Nebraska, 92-48-2
Creighton trails the series with the Huskers, 92-48-2. Since Ed Servais took the reigns for the Bluejays, Creighton is 17-29 against the Huskers. Creighton swept the annual three-game set with Nebraska for the first time last season. Creighton and Nebraska have each won on the other teams' home field this season, making

Scouting the Huskers
Nebraska suffered its first conference series loss over the weekend, dropping two of three to Iowa. Despite the series loss, the Huskers enter the week leading the Big 10 at 11-4 and are 22-13 overall.
The Huskers come to Omaha with a team average of .264, led by .329 from Aaron Palensky and .309 from Spencer Schwellenbach. The latter had been sidelined for 11 games, but returned in the last meeting with Creighton.
On the mound the Huskers have twice sent Kyle Perry to the bump to face Creighton, but a starter has not yet been named. As a team Nebraska has a 4.05 ERA. Closer Colby Gomes has yet to face the Bluejays, he brings a 3.29 ERA with eight saves in 13.2 innings.
Series History: Creighton leads Kansas, 24-11
Creighton leads the Jayhawks 24-11, including 7-6 under Servais. While Creighton and Kansas have had a long standing home and home on the schedule, weather has limited the battles to just one in 2017 and one last season. Creighton earned victories in both of those contest, 7-3 and 14-11 respectively.
Scouting the Jayhawks
The Jayhawks lone midweek game is Wednesday's contest with the Bluejays. Kansas closed the weekend on a high note with a 6-5 win over #20 West Virginia on Sunday, April 21. The Jayhawks enter the game at 20-18 overall.
Kansas is hitting .243 as a team, yet both Jaxx Groshans (.346) and Benjamin Sems (.301) are hitting over .300. On the bump Kansas brings a 5.41 team ERA.
Pitchers Rounding Into Form
While the offense carried the Bluejays through the first half of the season, the pitching staff have begun to step forward. Over Creighton's last 10 games the pitchers have posted an impressive 2.80 ERA, leading to an 8-2 record.
In the three-game sweep over Seton Hall this weekend Creighton pitchers held the Pirates to three combined runs, one in each game. During the 27 innings, Creighton allowed just 11 hits and struck out 22 Seton Hall hitters.
Ragan Claims the Battle of Aces from Reigning BIG EAST Preseason Pitcher of the Year DeVito
Senior Mitch Ragan set his squad up for success with the Bluejays' first complete game of the season, limiting Seton Hall to just two hits in the Bluejays' 5-1 win over the Pirates on April 18.
Ragan faced just 31 hitters, taking a no-hitter into sixth. The Bluejay ace took a shutout into ninth, before allowing a solo home run. Ragan closed off the Pirates in under two hours and 30 minutes, needing just 102 pitches. Ragan's complete game was Creighton's first since he went the distance on May 12, 2018 in a 6-1 win.
