Bluejays held leads in each contest
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton softball team lost 12-2 and 9-7 to St. John's during the Bluejays' first two BIG EAST home games on Saturday afternoon at the Creighton Sports Complex. Creighton led 2-1 in the first game and 7-4 during the second before each of those leads disappeared.
The Bluejays dropped to 1-7 in BIG EAST play and 11-16 overall, while the Red Storm improved to 6-1 in league play and 17-16 overall.
Creighton fell behind 1-0 in the opening game before scoring twice in the third inning. Victoria Alvarez led off the inning with a single to center before Sydney Jenkins and Ashley Cantu each produced bunt singles to load the bases with no one out. St. John's responded with a pair of strikeouts but both Kelli Finan and Kailey Wilson drew RBI walks to put the Bluejays ahead 2-1.Â
The Red Storm countered Creighton's two-run third with six runs during the fourth. Laura Roecker hit the first St. John's batter and induced a pop out for the first out of the frame. The next Red Storm batter sent a ground ball towards the left side of the infield. An errant throw towards second base ended up in right field and put runners at second and third. A walk loaded up the bases but Roecker produced the second out of the inning with her fifth strikeout of the game. A two-out walk tied the game before a pair of two-RBI singles and RBI double gave St. John's a 7-2 edge.
The Bluejays put two runners on bases in the fourth but a base-running error ended the inning.Â
St. John's went down in order during the fifth and Creighton left two more runners on base during the bottom half of the fifth frame.Â
The Red Storm added five more unearned runs during the top of the sixth inning to take a 10-run lead.

After falling by double-digits in the first game, Creighton scored six runs in the bottom of the first.Â
St. John's jumped out to a 2-0 edge with a two-run homer in the top half of the frame but the Bluejays tied the game with a fielder's choice and error and took the lead with a pair of two-RBI hits.
Finan drove in the first run of the game on a fielder's choice and an error allowed a second run to score on the play. Following a walk that loaded the bases, Jayci Foster hit a ground-rule double over the right-center field wall to drive in two more runs and give Creighton a 4-2 edge. Sam Alm capped the first-inning scoring with a single to right-field to send home two more Bluejay runners.
Both teams left two on base during the second inning and neither team produced a base runner during the third.
