Baseball Falls to St. John's 6-4

Omaha, Neb. -- The Creighton Baseball team saw its five-game winning streak come to an end as the Bluejays fell to St. John's, 6-4, on Saturday, May 11th.
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 30-11 on the season and 10-4 in BIG EAST play, while St. John's moved to 27-20 overall and 6-8 in conference action.
St. John's jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third on a two-run home from Wyatt Mascarella.
Creighton got on the board in the fourth as Jared Wegner drew a bases loaded walk with one down, but a strikeout and pop out to close the frame left the Bluejays down 2-1.
The Red Storm took advantage of two hit batters in the sixth, plating four runs with two outs on a two-run double from Mike Antico followed by a two-run double from Mascarella.
Trailing 6-1 the Bluejay bats began to stir int he sixth with four consecutive two-out singles, capped by RBI knocks from Will Hanafan and Isaac Collins.
The comeback continued with a RBI single in the seventh from Parker Upton, driving home Jake Holton who reached on a leadoff double. Creighton, however, left the bases loaded in the eighth and stranded 12 runners in the loss.
Starter Denson Hull took his first loss in BIG EAST play, falling to 5-4 on the season. Hull allowed two runs, on three hits in 4.1 innings.
St. John's starter Jeff Belge collected the win to move to 4-5, allowing one run on two hits and six walks in five innings of work. Gavin Hollowed earned his sixth save of the season, holding Creighton to just one run in the final three innings.
Creighton and St. John's will conclude their series on Sunday, May 12th, with first pitch moved up to 11:30 am.
