Softball Recognizes Seniors, Drops Both Games Of Doubleheader Against Seton Hall

The Bluejays celebrated their five senior student-athletes and senior student manager
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton softball team recognized its seniors on Saturday but dropped both games of a doubleheader to Seton Hall at the Creighton Sports Complex. The Bluejays fell 6-3 in the first game and 3-1 during the second.
Creighton moved to 7-13 during BIG EAST play and 19-24 overall, while the Pirates improved to 10-8 in league play and 24-23 overall.
The Bluejays honored Jayci Foster, Nikki McNeil, Laura Roecker, Kelli Finan and Valentina Bertrand, as well as student-manager Giana Devito, between games of the doubleheader.
Creighton jumped out to a 3-0 lead during the first game. Ashley Cantu singled and Foster walked before freshman Kiara Mills launched her 10th home run of the season over the left-field wall with one out during the bottom of the third inning. Kailey Wilson and Sam Alm each singled following the three-run homer but were each left on base to end the frame.
Mikaela Pechar led off the bottom of the fourth by reaching after being hit by the pitch but the Bluejays did not extend their lead.
Seton Hall tied the game in the top of the fifth inning with three runs on three hits and three errors.
Creighton went down in order during the bottom of the fifth before the Pirates took their first lead of the game with a one-out walk and two-out error in the top of the sixth.
Seton Hall extended its edge to three runs with a two-run homer in the seventh.
Creighton had an opportunity to cut into the Pirates' lead in the home half of the final frame as Foster walked and Mills doubled but a strikeout ended the game.
Cantu and Mills each had two hits to lead the Bluejays during the opening game of the day.
A RBI bunt-single by Alm produced Creighton's lone run in the second contest.
Seton Hall opened the scoring with a home run to left field in the top of the fourth inning.
The Bluejays answered in the bottom of the fourth as Mills was hit by the pitch with one out in the fourth and Wilson singled up the middle to put runners at the corners. Alm attempted to execute a squeeze play as pinch-runner Kristin Fry sprinted home from third base and Alm ended up driving in Fry and reaching first safely as the ball trickled past the Pirate pitcher.
Seton Hall quickly countered with a lead-off single and two-run homer in the top of the fifth.
Creighton put runners at first and second with two singles during the last of the seventh but a ground out and fly out ended the game.
The Bluejays tallied six hits, including two by Alm.
Logan Black recorded seven strikeouts during a complete-game effort.
The pair of losses eliminated Creighton from postseason contention as the Bluejays needed to sweep Seton Hall to finish in the top four of the BIG EAST standings.
Creighton and Seton Hall conclude their three-game series and the regular season on Sunday at 11 a.m.
