Women's Soccer Begins Six-Match Home Stand Against Kansas State

Omaha, Neb. -- The Creighton women's soccer team opens the 2019 season with the first of six consecutive home matches on Friday, Aug. 23 as the Bluejays face off with the Kansas State Wildcats.

Series History: Creighton leads Kansas State, 1-0-1
After taking a year off in 2018, the Bluejays and Wildcats renew their series this season. Creighton and Kansas State met in each of the Wildcats first two seasons as a program (2016 & 2017). The two squads battled to a draw in Omaha in 2016, but the Bluejays for the best of Kansas State in Manhattan in 2017. Â

The Wildcats begin a two-match trip to Nebraska this weekend, facing the Bluejays on Friday and Nebraska-Omaha on Sunday. Kansas State went 4-12-2 last season, a slight step back from its 6-11-1 record in 2017.
Kansas State returns 17 letterwinners from last season, including seven starters. The Wildcats top two scorers from last season are back on the pitch in Katie Cramer (seven points on two goals and three assists) and Brookelynn Entz (six points on two goals and two assists). In goal Emma Malsy is back for a second year in purple, she started all 18 contests for KSU last season, allowing 25 goals and recording 91 saves.
Jakubowski Unanimous Choice for All-BIG EAST Preseason Team
On the same day the Preseason Poll was released, the BIG EAST conference also announced its preseason team. Creighton senior Taryn Jakubowski was a unanimous pick for the Preseason All-BIG EAST team.
Last season Jakubowski was an All-BIG EAST First Team selection as she led Creighton with five goals, 12 points and a pair of game-winning tallies.

Playing three 30-minute periods against the Bulldogs, the Bluejays scored in each of the first two frames and held the Bulldogs at bay in the third session.
Junior Juelle Love put the Bluejays on the board first, taking a pass from senior Taryn Jakubowski, then sending the ball into the back of the net in the 20th minute (19:31).
Freshman Skylar Heinrich stepped forward in the second period, pushing Creighton's lead to 2-0. Heinrich finished a pass from fellow freshman Emma Yackley in the 52nd minute (51:48).
Aug. 17: Creighton 1, South Dakota 0

A goal in the opening period was all the offense the Bluejays needed as the Creighton women's soccer team closed it's exhibition season with a pair of
victories.
Senior Taryn Jakubowski delivered the Bluejays goal in the 30th minute of play, following a header from freshman Lea Høiness for a goal from seven feet away. Junior Juelle Love also collected an assist on the play, as she sent the ball to Høiness for the first shot of the series.
Creighton out shot South Dakota 21-6 in the match.
Bluejays in Season Openers
Creighton has a 15-13-2 mark in season openers all-time and are 18-8-4 in its first home match of the season.
Under Paule the Bluejays are 2-2-0 in season openers, but he is 2-0-0 in contests at home to start a season and 3-1-0 in home openers.
The Bluejays dropped its opening contest in each of the last two seasons, falling 2-0 at Iowa in 2018. The last time Creighton opened the year with a victory was also the last time the Bluejays opened at home, 2016 as Creighton bested Iowa 5-3 (Aug. 19, 2016).
Bluejays Open Season with Six Straight at Home
After playing a bulk of its non-conference schedule on the road the past two season, the Bluejays have a chance to build a strong nest in 2019.
Creighton begins the season with six straight matches at Morrison Stadium, the longest stretch to open a year at home in school history. The Bluejays first road contest is on Sept. 17 at Kansas City.
Before 2019, the longest home stand to open a season was five matches, during 1992. The most consecutive matches at home at any point is seven, that coming in 1994 (Sept. 27 - Oct. 18).
In 1992 the Bluejays opened the season 2-3-0, while Creighton went 7-0-0 during the home stand in 1994.
Under Paule the Bluejays are 19-13-1 (.591) in Morrison Stadium.
