Women's Soccer Downs Kansas State 3-2 Despite Early Deficit

Bluejays Score Final Three Goals to Snatch Victory
Omaha, Neb. -- Creighton rallied from an early 2-0 depict to upend Kansas State 3-2 in the opener of the 2019 season at Morrison Stadium on Friday Aug. 23.
The win gives Creighton their first win to open the season since 2016. The Bluejays move to 1-0-0 on the season, while the Wildcats move to 0-1-0 .
Kansas State jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, scoring twice in the first 10 minutes of the match, with both goals coming from by Katie Cramer.
Bluejays' senior Taryn Jakubowski cut into the lead, drawing a penalty kick in the 45th minute after weaving through three Wildcat defenders. The goal took the Bluejays into the break trailing 2-1, but momentum had shifted.
In the 49th minute, Creighton knotted the score at 2-2, when senior Cassie Legband sent a ball across the box that found freshman Skylar Heinrich at the back post for her first goal of her career.
The Bluejays took the lead for good in the 63rd minute as senior Keeley Fothergill found the back of the net off the rebound of teammate Kylin Grubb's shot attempt, making the score 3-2.
The Bluejays held a slight advantage in shots 19-14, behind six shots from Jakubowski. Creighton also lead in shots on goal with 10 compared to just seven for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats did hold an advantage in saves with seven, while sophomore Katie Sullivan saved five shots for Creighton.
The Bluejays return to action on Thursday, August 29th at 7:00 pm as they take on South Dakota State.
