Bluejays open regular-season on Friday at #2 Nebraska
AMES, Iowa -- The No. 18 Creighton Volleyball team won two of five sets in a preseason exhibition on Friday night at Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa.
Iowa State won the first three sets by scores of 26-24, 25-19 and 25-21 before CU rallied to win the final two sets 25-22 and 15-11. The programs had agreed before the match to play five sets no matter what, rather than the traditional best-of-five format to allow as many players and line-ups as possible to be utilized in preparation for the regular-season.
Creighton looked to take a 23-20 lead in the first set before a replay review overturn trimmed CU's lead to 22-21. The Cyclones would use that momentum to take a close first set. Creighton overcame a 15-7 margin in the fourth set to take a 20-19 lead and held off ISU for the 25-22 victory.
The Bluejays bolted to a 3-0 lead and never trailed in the fifth set.
Stats for the match were not disclosed.
Creighton opens the regular-season next weekend at the Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Neb., where it takes on No. 2 Nebraska on Friday and No. 20 Baylor on Saturday.
