Bluejays Look to Continue Dominance of Jackrabbits, Face Tigers for First Time
Omaha, Neb. -- The Creighton women's soccer squad continues its extended home stand to start the 2019 season as the Bluejays face off with South Dakota State and Clemson this weekend.

Series History: Creighton leads South Dakota State, 11-2-1
Creighton and South Dakota State have meet 14 times in school history with the Bluejays holding an 11-2-1 record dating back to 2004. The two schools met last season, in Brookings, S.D. with the Bluejays taking the victory by a score of 1-0, behind a goal from Kaira Houser. South Dakota State's last win came two years ago in Omaha as the Jackrabbits pulled one out of their hat, 3-2 in overtime.

The Jackrabbits kick off a two match road trip this weekend, making a stop in Omaha to take on the Bluejays on Thursday, before facing off with Kansas State on Sunday.
South Dakota State posted shutouts in their first two matches of the 2019 season. Delivering a 1-0 victory over Utah State (Aug. 23), then two days later upending Idaho State 2-0.
South Dakota State's Leah Manuleleua returns for her senior season after leading the Jackrabbits with five goals, four assists and 14 points in 2018.
Manuleleua picked up right where she left off this season, scoring two goals in South Dakota State's 2-0 win over Idaho State.
In goal Maggie Smither is back for her senior season, after saving 76 shots during the 2018 season.

The Tigers being a two-match trip to the state of Nebraska this weekend, facing the Huskers on Friday before taking on the Bluejays this Sunday. The Tigers went 12-9 last season, including a trip to the NCAA tournament.
Clemson returns 18 players from their 2018 roster including the leading scorer in Mariana Speckmaier (22 points on 10 goals and two assist). The Tigers have posted two shutouts to start the season, upending Utah 2-0 and a 6-0 victory over Coastal Carolina.

A graduate transfer from Clemson prior during the summer, Lauren Harkes gets an early chance to catch up with her old pals as the Tigers come to Morrison on Sunday, Sept. 1.
Near Record Crowd Witnesses Bluejay Comeback Win
The Bluejays hosted the second largest crowd in school history on Friday Aug. 23, when Kansas State came to town. The crowd of 2,023 saw an exciting comeback win by the Bluejays as Creighton rallied from a 2-0 deficit with a late goal in the first half and two in the second period.

Bluejays Open Season With a W for First Time Since 2016
The Bluejays rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to upend Kansas State 3-2 on Friday, Aug. 23, capturing their first season opening win since 2016. That season Creighton took down Iowa 5-3 on Aug. 19.
Since the program started in 1989 the Bluejays are 15-13-2 all time on season openers. Under head coach Ross Paule, Creighton is 3-2-0.
Paule Looking for First 2-0-0 Start
Creighton has a shot at starting the season 2-0-0 for the first time under Paule. The last time the Bluejays got out to a 2-0-0 start was in 2014, when Creighton opened the year 7-0-0. A 2-0-0 record has been accomplished 12 times in program history.
Depth Pays Immediate Dividends
Trailing 2-0 with under one minute left in the opening half, Creighton got a lift from senior Taryn Jakubowski. The Illinois native beat three Wildcat defenders to draw a penalty kick.
After converting the chance to give her squad all the momentum, head coach Ross Paule turned to his veterans to lead his squad back in the second half.
Paule inserted seniors Jaylin Bosak, Kylin Grubb, Cassie Legband and junior Keelie Fothergill into the second half starting 11. The move paid off immediately as Legband forced the action, finding freshman Skylar Heinrich for the equalizing score in the 49th minute.
The experienced unit continued to raise their squad as a shot from eight feet by Grubb was saved, but Fothergill was right there to deliver the game-winning goal. Fothergill found the back of the net off the rebound of a shot from Grubb.
Jakubowski - Honor Roll
Bluejay senior Taryn Jakubowski earned Creighton's first conference accolade of the season, collecting a spot on the BIG EAST Honor Roll following a goal in the season opener against Kansas State on Aug. 23.
Jakubowski has led the Bluejays in goals the past two years and earned a spot on the Preseason All-Big East Team this season.

Heinrich Quickly Earning the Number on Her Jersey
Freshman Skylar Heinrich came to Creighton with high expectations, that pressure increased as Paule tabbed her to carry the number 20. The last two Bluejays to wear number 20 have a combined 62 career goals. Lauren Sullivan (2013-16) capped her career with 32 goals, tied for second most in Creighton history. Brittney Neumann (2009-12), meanwhile, sits fourth overall with 30 career goals.
Neither Sullivan nor Neumann scored in their first Creighton match, but Heinrich collected her first goal of her young career in a 3-2 victory over Kansas State (Aug. 23). The quick, talented freshman touched the back of the net off a cross in the 49th minute to knot the game at 2-2.
Heinrich Becomes First Freshman to Deliver Debut Goal since 2016
Heinrich found the back of the net in her first collegiate game, being the first to do so since three different Bluejays accomplished the feat in the 2016 season opener. A trio of freshman delivered debut goals in a 5-3 victory over Iowa on Aug. 19, 2016 as Callie Hawkins found the net twice, while teammates Jaylin Bosak and Hannah Miller each collected one goal.
