Higueras did not drop a set on her way to a perfect 4-0 weekend
DES MOINES, Iowa -- Creighton women's tennis junior Laura Higueras earned a straight-sets victory to claim the Flight D Singles championship at the Drake Invitational on Sunday.
Higueras completed the weekend 4-0 and did not drop a set. The Madrid, Spain native outlasted Nebraska-Omaha's Lillian Tiemeyer 6-3, 6-4 to earn the crown.
Overall, the Bluejays finished the final day of the Drake Invitational with a 2-2 record.
Sophomore Meredith Benson earned her third consecutive win to complete the consolation draw of Flight C singles action. Benson fell during the first round on Friday in three sets but did not drop a set during the remainder of the weekend.
Freshman Kate Krueger ended her weekend with a 2-2 mark in the Flight A singles after falling in the third-place match on Sunday.
Julia Aguirre and Higueras nearly earned their third doubles win in Des Moines, but the pair fell during a tiebreaker in the Doubles Flight B consolation draw final.
Creighton returns to the courts on Sept. 27-28 for the Bluejay Invite at the Koch Family Tennis Center in Omaha.
