Scouting Creighton (3-2-1)
The Bluejays opened the 2019 campaign with three consecutive matches against teams ranked inside the United Soccer Coaches Top 25. Creighton finished 1-1-1 during those contests, including a 2-1 victory against No. 21 Akron.
Luke Haakenson paces the Bluejays with six points from two goals and two assists.
Haakenson claims one goal and three assists during three career matches played against Marquette.
Dominic Briggs and Ziyad Fares have also tallied a pair of goals for the team lead, while a total of seven players have recorded at least one. Â
Eight different Bluejays have recorded an assist, with Haakenson leading the squad with two.Â
Creighton owns a 1.45 goals against average through the first six matches, with both Paul Kruse and Colin Valdivia seeing time as goalkeeper.Â
Head coach Johnny Torres is in his first year at the helm of the Bluejays after spending 12 years as an assistant coach.
Scouting Marquette (2-2-1)
The Golden Eagles enter Friday's BIG EAST opener following a 2-1 loss at Milwaukee on Tuesday night.Â
Josh Coan paces the team with three goals, each coming during Marquette's last two matches.Â
Coan also converted the clinching penalty kick in the 12th round of Creighton and Marquette's shootout after a 1-1 draw during the 2018 BIG EAST Semifinals at Morrison Stadium.Â
Luka Prpa, a three-time All-BIG EAST midfielder, has been limited to action in only two matches this season. Prpa had four assists against Creighton during Marquette's 4-3
victory in Milwaukee on Oct. 25, 2017. He owns five assists and one goal during four career matches against the Bluejays.
Preseason All-BIG EAST defender Patrick Seagrist owns two assists this season to lead the Golden Eagles.Â
Freshman goalkeeper Jackson Weyman has played all 486 minutes in 2019 for Marquette and owns a 1.11 goals against average with 21 saves.Â
Head coach Louis Bennett is in his 14th season at the helm of Marquette.Â
Series History Against Golden Eagles
The all-time series between Creighton and Marquette is tied at 7-7-1.Â
The Bluejays earned a 2-1 victory during the 2018 regular season before the two teams played to a 1-1 draw during the BIG EAST Championship semifinals and the Golden Eagles advanced on penalty kicks, 10-9.
Marquette holds a 4-2-0 edge during matches played in Milwaukee, including a 4-3 win in 2017.Â
Creighton's only win at Marquette during a BIG EAST matchup came on Oct. 17, 2015 (3-1 W).
BIG EAST Opener History
Since joining the BIG EAST prior to the 2013 season, Creighton is 5-1-0 during the first conference match of the season, including the Bluejays' 3-0 shutout of Butler last sesaon.
Creighton's 2017 3-2 overtime loss at Butler marked the Bluejays' first loss in a conference opener since 2011 when Creighton fell to Missouri State during the Missouri Valley Conference opener.
The Bluejays own a 33-15-6 record during regular-season BIG EAST matchups.Â
The Bluejays have captured two BIG EAST regular-season titles (2014, 2018) and finished runner-up at the conference tournament twice (2015, 2016).Â
Creighton owns a total of 14 regular-season conference titles (most recent in 2018) and 13 conference tournament titles (last in 2012) as the Bluejays were a member of the Missouri Valley Conference from 1991-2012.Â

Bluejays Seek To Repeat Road Success
Creighton finished their road 2018 BIG EAST schedule undefeated (4-0-0) for the first time since joining the league prior to the 2013 season.Â
Last season marked the first time the Bluejays did not suffer a loss or draw on the road during league play since 2010 (3-0-0 in MVC road action).Â
The Bluejays were winless in their last eight conference road matches (0-6-2) entering 2018, including an 0-4-1 mark in 2017.
Overall, Creighton is 13-10-4 during BIG EAST Conference regular-season road matches.
Creighton's best road season during BIG EAST play prior to last season was in 2014 when the squad went 3-0-1.Â
Milwaukee Connections
Creighton head coach Johnny Torres will be in familiar territory on Friday night.
The first-year head coach played for the Milwaukee Wave of the MISL (indoor soccer) from 2001-2007 and made 99 appearances.Â
He also played the 2004 season for the outdoor Milwaukee Wave United.Â
Creighton sophomores Cameron Briggs and Dominic Briggs also grew up in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, which is about 30 miles from the Marquette campus. The pair also played club soccer for Elmbrook United which is in Brookfield, Wisconsin.Â
Valdivia In Goal
Fifth-year senior Collin Valdivia earned his first victory on Monday night against UNO.
Monday's match also marked Valdivia's third career start in goal.
The Santa Monica, California native also started against UC Irvine on Sept. 13. His only start before this season came on Oct. 6, 2017 against St. John's.Â
Valdivia owns a 1-2-1 career record with 12 saves and eights goals allowed in 386 minutes played (five matches).Â
Paul Kruse, the Preseason BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year, has not played since the 81st minute against Columbia (Sept. 9).Â
