Women's Tennis Starts Season With 4-1 Setback Against Iowa State

Bluejays open home schedule on Saturday against North Dakota
URBANDALE, Iowa -- The Creighton women's tennis team opened its 2020 dual season with a 4-1 loss against Iowa State in Urbandale, Iowa on Friday afternoon.
The Bluejays moved to 0-1, while the Cyclones improved to 1-1.
Sophomore Meredith Benson recorded Creighton's lone victory. Benson won in straight-sets at No. 6 singles. The South Dakota native earned a close 6-4 win in the first set before cruising to a 6-0 victory in the second.
"We lost to a tough Iowa State team today," head coach Tom Lilly said. "They outplayed us in doubles, but I enjoyed how our girls fought for every match in singles and had a lot of good energy. To have three sophomores and three freshmen as our singles starters today, they all handled the first match well."
Kate Krueger, Emma Gener and Julia King each made their Creighton spring season debuts on Friday.
The Bluejays return to Omaha and start their home schedule tomorrow afternoon. Creighton will host North Dakota at 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon at the Hanscom Tennis Center.
