Women's Tennis Opens Home Schedule With Sweep Of North Dakota

The Bluejays improved to 1-1, while the Fighting Hawks fell to 0-2.
Creighton started the day with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles slots to snag the opening point. Kate Krueger and Sarah Wilcox combined for a 6-1 win at the No. 1 position and Meredith Benson and Erin Epperson also recorded a 6-1 victory at No. 3.
The Bluejays won the first set at all six singles positions before Epperson, Emma Gener and Krueger each completed straight-sets singles victories to clinch the overall dual. Krueger's 7-5, 6-4 win at the top slot notched the Bluejays' fourth point to seal the match.
Wilcox, Benson and Gabby O'Connor each earned three-set victories. Benson tallied a 13-11 win in a third-set tiebreaker at No. 6, while O'Connor claimed a 10-6 win during her third frame at No. 5 . Wilcox played a full third set during the No. 3 singles match and earned a 6-3 win.
"Overall we played a good match today," head coach Tom Lilly said. "We started strong in doubles and singles and then North Dakota made a run on several courts which made it very interesting. I was proud of how we fought back and handled adversity in several spots."
Creighton returns to the courts tomorrow morning against Missouri State. The Bluejays and Bears will start play at 9 a.m. on Sunday at the Hanscom Tennis Center.
