OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton men's tennis team opened its home schedule with a 7-0 sweep of Midland on Wednesday afternoon at the Hanscom Tennis Center.
The Bluejays improved to 1-1, while Midland dropped to 0-1.
Creighton started the day with doubles victories at the top two positions to earn the first point. Daniel Lopez-Rey and Jose Oscar Diaz combined for a 6-1 win at No. 2 before Nick Campbell and Mac Mease completed a 6-3 win at the top spot.
Joe Hoff and Stratton Brown also clinched a tight 7-5 victory in No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, both Lopez-Rey (No. 6) and Brown (No. 2) dropped only one game during two sets, while Mease won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 to clinch the dual. The Bluejays and Warriors battled in closer matches at the other three positions but Creighton managed to win each in straight-sets.
"Midland played some strong tennis at times and pushed us in some matches," head coach Tom Lilly said. "It was good to see us come through in some tight moments to take every match. We will need to step it up next week."
Creighton returns to the courts on Tuesday for a match in Kansas City against Wichita State.
