Women's Tennis Suffers 6-1 Setback To Marquette

The Bluejays moved their season record to 4-4.
Kate Krueger and Sarah Wilcox combined for a 7-5 win at the top doubles position. Marquette took the doubles point with wins at the other two positions.
Erin Epperson posted the Bluejays' lone victory during singles play. The junior posted a straight-sets win at the No. 4 position and moved into a tie for the team-lead with five singles victories this season.
The Golden Eagles won in straight-sets at four of the other five positions. Krueger won her first set at the top slot before falling in the final two frames.
Creighton's originally scheduled match for Sunday against Western Illinois will not be played because of various injuries to the Leathernecks' squad. With the cancellation, the Bluejays secured a win by default to improve to 5-4 on the season.
"We struggled at times today with the pace and Marquette played a strong match throughout," head coach Tom Lilly said. "A good win at No. 1 doubles and for Erin in singles. We need to improve to take that next step in beating a top team in our conference. We will work on that starting next practice."
The Bluejays return to the courts next weekend for a pair of home matches. Creighton hosts Nebraska-Omaha at 7 p.m. at the Hanscom Tennis Center on Friday night before facing Northern Colorado on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
