Women's Tennis Sweeps Northern Illinois, Earns Four Three-Set Wins

Bluejays recorded four three-set singles victories
The Bluejays improved to 3-3, while the Huskies fell to 4-2.
Creighton earned the doubles point with wins at the top two positions. Gabby O'Connor and Emma Gener claimed a 6-1 win at No. 2, while Kate Krueger and Sarah Wilcox won 6-3 at the top position to clinch the first point of the match.
The Bluejays won at each singles positions but needed three sets at four of the six matches to complete the sweep.
Creighton earned first-set victories at each singles position. Wilcox (No. 3) and Erin Epperson (No. 4) finished off the opposition with straight-sets wins, but the Huskies won the second frame at the other four slots.
Krueger clinched the overall dual with a 6-3 third-set victory at the top position. Gener fell by a slim 7-5 margin in her second set at No. 2 before winning 6-1 in the deciding frame. Meredith Benson lost in a tiebreaker during the second set at No. 6 but battled back for a 10-8 win in a 10-point tiebreaker for the final set. O'Connor ended play with a 6-4 win in the third set at No. 5 following a 6-1 setback in her second frame.
"We played very well at times and had to handle some tough situations," head coach Tom Lilly said. "Our girls fought hard through some issues, and we will need to recover before we play a tough St. Louis team in the morning."
The Bluejays and Billikens will meet at 9 a.m. on Sunday morning at the Hanscom Tennis Center.
