Women's Tennis Opens 2021 Season With 5-2 Victory Over Eastern Illinois

Bluejays won in straight-sets at four singles positions for the win; First match since March 12, 2020
WATERLOO, Iowa -- The Creighton women's tennis team posted a 5-2 victory over Eastern Illinois on Friday at the Black Hawk Tennis Club in Waterloo, Iowa during the Bluejays' first match of the 2021 season.
The Bluejays moved to 1-0, while the Panthers fell to 1-2.
Creighton started the contest with wins at the No. 2 and 3 doubles slots to secure the first overall point. Erin Epperson and Emma Gener claimed a 6-2 win at No. 3 before newcomers Joanna Nowakowska and Alex Centra paired for a 6-4 victory at the No. 2 slot.
All six singles matches ended in straight sets as the Bluejays won four of the six matchups to earn the team victory. Sarah Wilcox won 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 2 position and Gener secured a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 4. Erin Epperson sealed Creighton's season-opener win with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6.
"This was a good start to the season," head coach Tom Lilly said. "We played a good team on fast courts and it was our first match since last March. We got the jitters out and finished strong. We will look to compete hard once again tomorrow morning."
Creighton and Eastern Illinois will meet for the second time in as many days at a neutral site with a 10 a.m. dual on Saturday morning.
