WATERLOO, Iowa -- The Creighton women's tennis team downed Eastern Illinois 5-2 for the second consecutive day at the Black Hawk Tennis Club in Waterloo, Iowa.
Creighton's victory on Saturday marked the Bluejays' ninth consecutive win dating back to last season. The Panthers fell to 1-3 with the loss.
Creighton originally had plans to play both Northern Iowa and Eastern Illinois in Waterloo, Iowa, but COVID-19 protocols within the UNI program altered plans and the Bluejays and EIU agreed to play twice.
Kate Krueger and Sarah Wilcox paired up at the top doubles position for a 6-1 win in the encore while Erin Epperson and Emma Gener clinched the first point of the match with a 6-2 win at the No. 3 slot. Epperson and Gener also won at the third doubles position on Friday evening.
The Bluejays won four singles matches in straight sets. Freshman Alex Centra picked up her first singles wins as a Bluejay with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 to start the action. Kate Krueger notched her first win of the season with a 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 2 slot. Erin Epperson and Joanna Nowakowska each moved to 2-0 with wins at No. 6 and 5, respectively.
"Another solid match for us today," head coach Tom Lilly said. "We handled some tough moments on most courts but need to keep improving. I like our team a lot and will need to push them to reach their full potential."
Creighton's next scheduled match is in Omaha against Sioux Falls on Feb. 6 at 6 p.m.
