Bluejay Women's Soccer Suffers Heartbreaking 3-2 Loss at Connecticut

Storrs, Conn. -- The Creighton women's soccer team held a lead for most of regulation, yet suffered a 3-2 loss in double overtime to Connecticut on Thursday, October 14th.
The loss dropped Creighton to 6-7-2 on the season and 0-5-1 in BIG east action, while Connecticut climbed to 7-6-0 overall and 4-2-0 in conference play.
The Bluejays scored first as Lilli Bedell headed home a pass from Aida Kardovic in the 35th minute (34:21). Kardovic controlled possession into the right corner, serving a ball just in front of the goal for Bedell to head into the net.
Creighton held the 1-0 advantage into the middle of the second half, when Connecticut stuck for an equalizer, getting a tally from Jaydah Bedoya in the 68th minute (67:21).
Late in the contest the Bluejays took the lead once more as Peighton Steffen served a ball into the box from near midfield. Kardovic and Husky goalkeeper Kaitlyn Mahoney collided, with the ball bouncing off Kardovic into the net.
With just 15 seconds remaining in regulation the Huskies forced overtime as Bedoya scored on a broken play in front of the net.
Finally in the second overtime Connecticut took the match on a goal in the 104th minute (103:43) from Evelyn Arsenault.
Bluejay goalkeeper Keelan Terrell was brilliant in the match, collecting a career-high 10 saves as she faced 26 shots.
Mahoney, meanwhile, finished with one save against six shots.
The Bluejays return home on Sunday, October 17th to host Seton Hall at 1:00 pm in Morrison Stadium.
