Flanery vs. South Dakota State
Flan is 6-5 against the Jackrabbits, but holds a 3-1 mark against South Dakota State in D.J. Sokol Arena.
Scouting South Dakota State (2-2)
The Jackrabbits are 2-0 at home and 0-2 on the road this season. Looking deeper into South Dakota State's schedule, the Jackrabbits have faced Mississippi State and #14 Iowa State on the road. At home the games have been against Green Bay and Montana State.
Paige Meyer leads SDSU with 11.8 points per game (ppg), while Tylee Irwin is just a step back at 11.3 ppg. Meyer is the key to the Jackrabbits as the true freshman is the point guard, dishing out 17 assists to lead the team.
Expect South Dakota State to use its length, four starters over 6-0, to feed the post. Specifically the Jackrabbits are adept at posting up at the guard position.
Head coach Aaron Johnston is in his 22nd season, leading SDSU to 14 postseason appearances (10 NCAA Tournaments).
Scouting Creighton (1-2)
The strength of Creighton's start to the 2021-22 season has been its depth. The Bluejays went at least 10 deep in each of the first three contests. That depth allowed the Bluejays to remain fresh throughout the game. It specifically paid dividends in Creighton's ability to crash the boards throughout the game at Nebraska, yielding 54 rebounds.
Against the Bulldogs it was the second unit that helped Creighton rally from a 17-point deficit late in the third quarter to knot the game in the final minute. Versus the Mavericks the spark for Creighton was reserve guard Molly Mogensen with eight assists and four steals.
Â
Four Bluejays enter the game with South Dakota State averaging double-figures led by 13.0 ppg from Morgan Maly. Carly Bachelor sits at 11.7, while Tatum Rembao and Emma Ronsiek average 10.7 and 10.5 ppg respectively.
Keys To the Game on Sunday, Nov. 21
Technically Speaking
For the second time in her career Rachael Saunders collected a technical foul. The Iowa native earned a technical foul in the third quarter (1:28) on Nov. 17. She also received a technical foul in the first quarter against West Virginia on Nov. 2, 2019. At that time Saunders was the first Bluejay player to be given a technical since Kristina Voss claimed the last two during an Feb. 27, 2009, game with Drake and a Feb. 24, 2006, game with Indiana State.
Each of Saunders' technicals were double technicals, marking the last time that an opposing player was admonished as well. In the game with the Huskers (Nov. 17, 2021) it was Bella Cravens, while against West Virginia (Nov. 28, 2019) it was Esmery Martinez. The last time an op-posing coach earned a technical was at Xavier on Jan. 24, 2020.
Head coach Jim Flanery picked up his last technical during the 2015-16 season, earning two technicals during the year. Flanery has accounted for seven of the 14 technical fouls during his tenure at Creighton.

Keys To the Game on Sunday, Nov. 21
- Quick Start: Creighton has started slowly in each of its first three games. The Bluejays will need to emphasize a better first half, reducing the reliance on fresh bodies to overcome late deficits.
- Defending the Post: Creighton did a better job against Nebraska in the post, but South Dakota State will try to post not only the traditional forwards. The Jackrabbits will try to use the height advantage of their guards to get easy buckets down low.
- Lauren Jensen: Creighton's sophomore transfer from Iowa played well in the win over Omaha, but was a combined 3-for-11 against Drake and Nebraska. In addition Jensen had four assists versus the Mavericks, yet three combined against Nebraska and Drake.
